About Permanent Mission of Colombia to the Organization of American States

The Permanent Mission of Colombia to the Organization of American States began its activities in May 1948, once the OAS was created on April 30 of that year as a result of the IX International American Conference that took place in Bogotá.

“The Organization was founded with the objective of achieving in its Member States, as stipulated in Article 1 of the Charter, "an order of peace and justice, promoting their solidarity, strengthening their collaboration and defending their sovereignty, their territorial integrity and Their independence.

“Today, the OAS brings together the 35 independent states of the Americas and constitutes the main political, legal, and social governmental forum in the Hemisphere. In addition, it has granted Permanent Observer status to 69 States, as well as the European Union (EU).

"To achieve its most important purposes, the OAS is based on its main pillars, which are democracy, human rights, security, and development."
