About Permanent Mission of Chile to the Organization of American States
Function of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the Organization of American States is to execute the Foreign Policy defined by the President of the Republic in the multilateral hemispheric sphere.
Contribute to the work of the Organization in the context of Chile's priorities in the areas of Democracy, Human Rights, Integral Development, Hemispheric Security, and Administrative-Financial matters. This is materialized through participation in the main organs and specialized agencies of the Inter-American System.
Objectives
- Promote the OAS as the main hemispheric political forum for multilateral dialogue.
- Reaffirm the core principles and values of the inter-American community.
- Support the initiative capacity of the Secretary General.
- Reaffirm the commitment to Democracy and Governance as a guiding principle of hemispheric coexistence, closely linked to the effectiveness and validity of the Inter-American System.
- Promote the effective strengthening of the observance of Human Rights in the inter-American sphere and the consolidation of a culture of respect for fundamental rights.
- Strengthen the OAS as a space for cooperation for Integral Development , through the exchange of experiences and programs that facilitate the design and implementation of social policies.
- Support inter-American work in the field of multidimensional security , with special emphasis on citizen security, transnational organized crime, and measures to combat terrorism and drug trafficking.
- Value the contribution of the specialized agencies and instances of the inter-American system so that the OAS can respond to the various concerns of citizens.
- Encourage the contribution of the sectoral ministerial meetings for the preparation of a hemispheric agenda.
- Continue with substantive contributions to the preparatory process for the Summits of the Americas.
