About Permanent Mission of Argentina to the Organization of American States

The Organization of American States, in order to carry out the principles on which it is founded and fulfill its regional obligations in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations , establishes the following essential purposes:

- Strengthen the peace and security of the Continent;

- Promote and consolidate representative democracy while respecting the principle of non-intervention;

- Prevent the possible causes of difficulties and ensure the peaceful settlement of disputes that arise between member states ;

- Organize solidarity action of these in case of aggression;

- Seek the solution of political, legal and economic problems that arise between them;

- Promote, through cooperative action, its economic, social and cultural development;

- Eradicate critical poverty, which constitutes an obstacle to the full democratic development of the peoples of the hemisphere, and

- Achieve an effective limitation of conventional weapons that allows the greatest number of resources to be devoted to the economic and social development of the Member States.
