About Consulate General of Mexico in Houston
The office of the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, Texas is at the service of the community and represents the Government of Mexico in its constituency. As such, it is in charge of the following main functions: the protection of the rights and interests of Mexicans; the issuance of documents; the promotion of Mexico and the relationship between Mexico and communities of Mexican origin in this consular district.
As far as the protection of the rights and interests of Mexicans is concerned, at the Consulate we attend to all kinds of queries on immigration, criminal, labor, civil, family, and administrative matters; we actively participate in the protection and defense of the human rights of Mexicans; of equality and good treatment in employment, and we verify that the various legal procedures involving Mexicans are applied in accordance with the corresponding legal regulations.
The Consulate issues a significant number of identity, travel or other documents. Such is the case of consular registrations, passports, visas and migratory internment permits to Mexico; National Military Service cards; civil registration; permits for the temporary importation of vehicles; birth certificates; powers of attorney and notarial wills, among others.
Regarding promotion, at the Consulate we have the duty to take care of the good name of Mexico; promote the diversity and richness of our culture; support tourism to Mexico and promote exports and productive investments to our country.
Of fundamental importance are the relations between Mexico and the communities of Mexicans that reside in our constituency. The formation of hometown clubs; the support for the invaluable help that our compatriots send to Mexico; participation –through the representatives elected for this purpose- in the Consultative Council of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad. In short, at the Consulate we have the duty to maintain and promote the permanent relationship between Mexicans on both sides of the border.
